The project - site conditions
The wind farm consists of Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost which have been planned and constructed in the German North Sea 23 kilometers north of the island of Helgoland.
The location is one of the most promising in the emerging offshore wind business in Germany. The main advantages of the location are the combination of best offshore wind conditions with convenient water depth of 22 m to 26 m and the nearby island Helgoland to be used as base for operation and maintenance..
Excellent Location
Wind park locations in a lower water depth and near to the coast are normally characterized by a numerous appearance of flora and fauna that should not be disturbed.
Offshore sites are more unfavourable for their operators due to higher water depth, longer distance of grid connection and difficult maintenance conditions.
The location of Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost allows to combine both successfully – thoughtfulness for flora and fauna in spite of short distance to the coast.
